Default Colts: Is this a good or bad trade?

I have the chance to get a Colt Trooper in 38 spl. 4 inch barrel, 98 percent condition. This one is an early model, with hammer mounted firing pin. I don't know the year, but it's got AMAZING trigger. I believe it's got the 'python' lockwork before they switched to the mk iii.

I was thinking of trading a Colt 1911 xse model for the Trooper. It would be pretty much a straight up trade.

I'm thinking the Colt 1911 is current production, so I can get another one whenever I please. An early model Trooper in this condition, not so common.

    Should I do this?

    Thanks.

Yes. The Colt revolver is beautifully made and functoinal, a 1911 is one that often has to be worked on! Dave_n

The xse will cost you close to$900 to replace with a new one. I would figure $650-700 value if it is in nice shape on a straight sale. To me that seems a little high for a trooper. Maybe not for an early one, I just don't know what they are currently going for. If you really love the trooper then it might be worth it. I haven't seen one for sale recently around here. Xse's I can get any day of the week.

If it is really what you want then I don't think you would get beat up too bad on it either way. The value of the trooper will probably go up quicker than any series 80 gun imho.

I personally wouldn't have to give it a second thought...it's a bad trade, but I base that off of what I'd rather have in a shoot out. I don't really keep any safe queens or collector guns. As far as value one to the other, it's a C-note either way, so you're not going to go bankrupt if you make the trade.

    Get the revolver!

1911's are made every day. They have completely saturated the market and you'll never have a problem finding one.

The Trooper - hasn't been made in years and Colt has no plans to ever again make a double action revolver.

Go for it. I have always been partial toward Colts and revolvers.

Got $$ back?? That's a plus. Also, the dude on 'The Walking Dead' uses a revolver, so you should be GTG.
