Re: Bi-partisan background check bill introduced in U.S. House
I know in 1980 the local police did the approving. I'm pretty sure it started with the unconstitutional infringement 1968 Gun Control Act that was a verbatim law of the 1933 Nazi German Gun Laws.

Re: Bi-partisan background check bill introduced in U.S. House
Federal requirement for background checks started 20 years ago with the Brady Bill. Prior to that I think only some states had laws that required them. Apparently, PA was one of them.
The Brady Bill is a federal background check "loophole." Congress knew it would be unconstitutional and impossible for the federal government to require Citizens to pass a federal background check (get permission from the federal government) to obtain a firearm. The best they could do is exploit a loophole, and have their FFLs that they licensed previously under Interstate Commerce (lies) be required to perform the check if you bought a gun from an FFL.
Background checks ARE the loophole. For an unconstitutional behavior.

I bought my first pistol(Model 28 .357) in Texas, at 18 in 1975. It was a face to face.

Re: Bi-partisan background check bill introduced in U.S. House
I wrote Rep. Fitzpatrick to ask why he now supports HR 1217 and why he did not sign the M855 letter.
That was last week, still nothing!
Time to start writing boys and girls! We have to keep the pressure on. If not us then who?Last edited by blueskiesPA; March 15th, 2015 at 09:11 PM.

Re: Bi-partisan background check bill introduced in U.S. House
The background check was only for handguns and there was a waiting period. I forget if it was 3 or 5 days. Right after I got off active duty in 1980 I purchased a new 45 Colt MK IV 70 Series. I remember the Marple Township cop that was in charge of the background checks called on the last day of the waiting period and gave me some crap about committing a crime in California. The only problem with that is at that point I had never been in California. I told him look pal I just got off active duty from the US Navy and I'll be right down to have him show me the paperwork on that. About 30 minutes later the gun shop called me and said I could come pick up my gun.
When I got to the gun shop I asked the gun shop owner what the cop had said to him because I talked to the owner right after I spoke to the officer. The cop told him he had spelled my name wrong or something along that line. Yeah, OK. I started early not taking bullshit from anyone. I guard my right to own a firearm jealously and if I get a bit testy with leftist/socialist/rino gun grabbers this incident with this Marple Township Police officer can be directly attributed to my somewhat hostile reaction.
With long guns you just filled out a 4473 and you were on your way.
I've basically had it with all this background check bullshit. It's a fake, phony and fraud. There is absolutely no provision in the US Constitution or the PA Constitution for any of this. Only the complete and total repeal of the Gun Control Act, the Brady Law and all the other bullshit laws that infringe on my right to own whatever gun I chose will do.
See, I would have been in fatty pocketball player's face down at the park yesterday. I have a guardian angel that watches over this Irish tempered girl.Corruption is the default behavior of government officials. JPC
