    Default Westmoreland LTC

Can anyone tell me about the licensing process at the Sheriffs office . Is it a as simple as filling out the app.handing it back they do a check, paying and them handing you your card? Just trying to find out if I need to take more than one day off of work for the process. Also what form of payment is accepted ? cash ? check ? MO?

    Thanks,Tim

Walk in, fill out the paper work. Make sure you have your references and Id. I think it costs $20, I pay with cash. Not sure of other methods accepted. They take your picture, laminate your license and you walk out the door with it within 10-15 minutes.

I thought that in Westmoreland county you had to opt out if you DON'T want an LTCF?

I just assumed everyone there was assigned one at birth.

I got it on my 21st before I had a beer. That's just Wesmoco priorities.

Walk in, through metal detectors, go to the left, hallway on the left, down the stairs, follow the signs for the sheriff's office. Bring the form filled out in advance to save a few minutes. They've never called references for anyone I know.

I think my references were called but that was long ago. Give good references and expect them to be called up. You won't be disappointed that way.

Nice people at the office. Polite, sincere. They will explain what needs explaining and are courteous and patient. Last time I renewed they ran me through the NICS or PICS or whatever. Took a new photo. Fixed it up and sent me on my way.

Most of the metal detector folks at the door are patient and kind people. Be nice if you give them a break. If you have knives,a multitool or other tools it'll set off the detector. Just pack your keys and pocket change to speed things up for everyone.

I am told that they have lockers for handguns but I never bothered to check it out. I just make a special trip down there, scoot in and out.

Payment? I paid in cash. Filled out a receipt. I think that they'll take checks and maybe credit cards too.

I think that they wanted me to fill in a change of address form. I remember filling in a page using a pen. Signed it. Turned it in and then waited my turn.

How much time? First come, first served. I think my wait was thirty minutes. There were two people ahead of me.

Parking in Greensburg is not so hot. There is a parking lot on N. Main but it's often close to full. Be sure to bring quarters for the meters. If you want there is a parking garage nearby but I think it's pricier. I've never gone to the garage because I never needed to do so.
