Using a restroom while in public.

I've search a little on the forum but haven't found this topic.

Anyone have thoughts on what to do with your pistol while sitting down in a restroom stall in public? Due to the bottom 12" of the walls in a stall being nonexistent, do you leave your pistol in the holster or place it on a flat (preferably clean) surface, coat hook if available? I usually carry concealed with an IWB holster with an average amount of retention.

I refuse to take it out of my holster and set it somewhere out of fear of accidentally leaving it there when I leave. Even when I go concealed it's not a big deal if someone catches a peek of it under the wall.

Having said that, I doubt someone would be able to see it unless they bent over. I try to not let my pants drag while sitting. Who knows what's on the floor.

I carry in the appendix so if I ever have to take a sit down and absolutely cant make it home I place the whole holster in the seat of my pants. Also if at all possible use a single entry restroom.

Best advice I've seen is to put the holstered gun inside the seat of your pants, like TeflonDon mentioned above. Difficult for someone else to see and grab, but no chance of overlooking it and leaving it behind when you're done (unless you then pick it up and then put it back down again on a flat surface before you exit the stall).

I agree with you here. I was just curious because it could be a nuisance if you were carrying a much lighter OWB holster that could flop over.

In a separate use of public facilities a few weeks ago, I swear I could have heard someone enter the stall next to me and remove a gun from his holster and place it on the back of the toilet. It just seemed to make that certain sound if you know what I mean. To your other point I was not able to see his holster under the stall wall.

Agreed to both I think your idea is much safer than unholstering the gun.

Use a real holster that is on a belt, woven between the belt loops. That holster should also have positive retention(this excludes any friction retention holsters).

Pull your pants down to your knees, spread your legs as you sit. Your holster will stay on your belt/pants, and will be at knee high level. ..out of sight, and at easy reach should they be a stall invader that needs to be shot.
