Re: wait times for Conceal carry license
It will depend on the references that you list. The sheriff's office is likely going to get the postcards sent within a week. Your references have to fill them out and get them back to the sheriff before the license can be approved. If they sit on the cards, your approval will wait.
Once the office gets your referrals cards returned, they will contact you within a week from then.
Those are time-frames that I have experienced, and a former deputy that I am friends with has told me that it's pretty reliable to expect.
So, adding up the round trip I would say you are looking at inside of a month given your ref's cooperate.
Good luck, and be safe.

Re: wait times for Conceal carry license
Mine took 28 days from turning in my application to receiving my postcard for pickup. My character references got their cards to fill out within a week.

Re: wait times for Conceal carry license
Over 8 hours and nobody has commented that PA has a LTCF (License To Carry a Firearm) Not a concealed carry permit.
You guys must be getting mellow. Next thing you know folks will be throwing The "C" word around when they mean "magazine" and no one will object.[/humor]

They send postcards to your references? What do these postcards say?

Re: wait times for Conceal carry license
This is a first I've heard about people having to wait in PA. I got my card in about 4 minutes when I went in to get mine a few months ago. But different county.

Re: wait times for Conceal carry license
Monroe County has been known to make you wait the forty five days. Plus "forget" to notify you that your license is ready for pick up.

Re: wait times for Conceal carry license
Not true. It's not overnight but the actual average wait time is about 35 days from my 12 years living here, experience on this forum, people I know and my own personal experiences.
I recently renewed mine, applied on a Friday and exactly 3 Fridays later (21 days) I received my postcard saying it was ready to be picked up. My original took 33 days from application to receive my notification postcard but I had already picked it up (I called and they said it was ready).
The reference card simply asks a few questions about the applicant's character. I think the word "drunkard" appears on there lol. One of the questions asks something to the effect of "Do you know this person to be a habitual drunkard?" from what I've been told.NRA Instructor/RSO

Sorry bud, I have been here twenty one years, that trumps your twelve. Plus this happened way before this board was around.
FACT... that they have taken the whole forty five days and they have forgotten to notify people when their license was ready. I know because it has happened to me and others that I know.
