    Default PSP Website

I was doing some research about different areas of PA that I might want to move to when the time is right.

So while I was checking county sheriffs websites, I clicked a link entitled Carrying Firearms in Pennsylvania. And it lead to this page on the PSP website: http://www.psp.pa.gov/firearms-infor...x#.VOyqMy6zuWN

I find it funny that the top LEOs in the state don't even mention Open Carry as a lawful way to carry a firearm in PA.

What are your thoughts on this? Should the PSP site be updated to mention OC as a legal way to carry in PA?

I believe the philosophy is that they are informing of the actual laws on the books regarding the carrying of firearms. Since there isn't a law that directly addresses open carry, they're not going to make statement about it.
Rules are written in the stone,
Break the rules and you get no bones,
all you get is ridicule, laughter,
and a trip to the house of pain.

As a nonresident the site states I can walk into any Sheriff's office with my out of state permit and apply for an LTCF. Not so.

I understand where you are coming from.

Non the less that page is about carrying a firearm in PA and OC is an option and should also be addressed an that page. Image people as myself looking to leave their present state of residents and looking for firearm info in the state of PA.
Do you think some of those people will go right to the PSP site to see if they had the info they were looking for?

IMHO It's a disservice to the public to not disclose all options.

I see that it says the sheriff "may" issue the license if everything is in order, not "shall". Not that I was expecting 100% accuracy.

Are there exceptions to carrying a firearm without a Pennsylvania License to Carry?

Wouldn't open carry be an appropriate exception to list under that heading?

TBH it's best they don't address it. OC in Pa is a complicated matter to those that do not fully understand it, or possess a ltcf to avoid some of its pitfalls.
Considering the info would likely be incorrect either partially or entirely I would rather it see it not addressed than see someone get jacked up over misleading information. Like the NJSP website that quite clearly states transporting an unloaded firearm, essentially in accordance with FOPA, is a lawful act. Only to discover that it's only lawful when the narrow possession exceptions are met.

It *is* so. It's right there in the statutes.

If you follow the advice on the NJSP website you will go to jail.

The PSP website won't send you to jail at least.

Aren't we technically May issue because of the "character clause"?
