New Federal HST .380
Federal has come out with a new .380 99gr HST load. I like the heavier weight and hoping reliable expansion and over 12" of penetration can be had out of an LCP. We will see but so far it looks good. I just hope it can be had in 50rd boxes.

Re: New Federal HST .380
I have watched numerous YOUTUBE videos of a variety of .380 hollow point tests in ballistics gel and while many do tend to expand reliably, they do not reach 12" of penetration. Most seem to penetrate around 8"-10"
I was specifically interested in the 102 Golden Saber Remigton, the heavier bullet interested me but with the heavier bullet seemed to cause slower velocities that may not have been fast enough to cause reliable expansion.
Again these were observations from YOUTUBE videos. Not my own tests.

This guy seemed to do thorough tests

Re: New Federal HST .380
In a lot of tests th e90gr XTP will reach 12" but it does depend on the gun. I agree the 102gr GS is a crap shoot whether it expands or not especially in shorter barrels (like LCP) and thru denim. The HSTs have proven to be reliable expanders in other rounds but the .380 is a different ball game.

Re: New Federal HST .380
Precision one .380 with the XTP meets the minimum FBI standards for penetration through 4 layers of ballistic denim along with proper expansion. It's also affordable and comes in 50 round boxes.
The test were done of of a Taurus TCP with a 3" barrel. I rarely carry my TCP and when I do it's for a 2nd back up gun only but it's always loaded with Precision one.
I was very impressed with the 124gr HST 9mm testings so I am looking forward to seeing how their .380 does.Join the GOA & save $5.00. https://www.gunowners.org/mac-subs-join-goa.htm
