Is the Mossberg 535 3.5 inch any good?
I am going to buy a turkey shotgun soon and this gun is in my price range. I am looking at either the MOS Model 535 All Terrain Turkey 12 Gauge 3.5 or a Remington 870. Any thoughts, input or pros and cons?
Thanks, IsaacLast edited by Hobbs4421; February 12th, 2015 at 04:48 PM.

my dad has the 535 i have never hunted with it but i've shot it enough to know its a good gun. pretty much it comes down to where you want your safety mossberg on top of receiver rem on the trigger guard.
its been my experience that the 870 express often have roughly machined chambers without the finer polish work of either the police or wingmaster.

I can't speak on the Mossber 535 but I have an 870 super mag. I wouldn't recommend that as it jams up on the cheap steel hulled shells. It does fine with brass and high brass, but that can get expensive when you're playing with clays. If you're strictly going to hunt with it, it'll work.

I have the 535 Turkey Tactical and I think it's very nice. The only thing I don't really care for is having a pistol grip stock on a gun with a thumb activated safety. That's an easy enough change.

I bought a 535 last year for turkey. Got a very good price. I love where the safety is located on the mossberg. I only have maybe 20 or 30 rounds through mine. Seems like a well built shotgun for the purpose and the money.

I've used a 535 for Turkey the last 2 years and love it. I bought the turkey/field combo so it doubles as my waterfowl gun as well. I did replace the clip-on turkey sights this year, but bagged (3) birds with the stock ones. I found the sights to be to low on the barrel, but that was only a comfort thing for me. 3.5" shells will cycle reliably as long as you run it like a man...
FYI: 3" turkey shells pattern much better than 3.5" out of my 535 with the factory XX-Full choke. If you are a turkey hunter that is on the 3.5" shell bandwagon I would recommend the 835 or a different choke.
