    Default First AR build

I just ordered a rifle kit from Del-ton after reading good things about them here. Does anyone know what their turn around time is for rifle kit orders? I am also ordering a stripped lower from Anvil Arms does anyone know their turn around time? I am starting a new job on Monday and I wanted to reward myself with one more AR before the possible AWB goes into effect. This is going to be my first build and I can't wait. Thanks for your help.

Ask when you order the Anvil Arms lower, it should only be a week or 2 if they have them in stock. Same with Del-Ton, just give them a call back and ask but typically if in stock they get sent out pretty quick.

Have a good time with the build project. I built mine and I love it mre than any other piece in my collection(meager though it may be). Just something about taking a table full of odd looking pieces of metal and springs and making a weapon from them with your own hands. Having that intimate look inot and understanding of the soul of the rifle, knowing the detailed relationship between each part. The 1st time I had a problem with FTF's I knew exactly what it was just by the actions that the rifle was not completeing.

    You'll love it.

Del-Ton is usually very quick on turning around their stuff. I got mine from there as well. However, you may want to give them a quick follow-up call to assure nothing is on backorder. I switched from a 16" barrel to a 20" barrel because I had no patience to wait when the 16s were on backorder.

My buddy also got his from there. We have had nothing but a lot of fun with ours two Del-Ton builds. I plan on buying a couple more from them when I build ones for my kids.

FYI, I ordered a stripped lower and parts from Anvil. They are currently backordered, but are supposed to start shipping out to customers by the end of July. Jon from Anvil has been good about responding to questions that I've sent him, and his stuff is supposed to be great quality from what I've been told.

Curious as to what your FINAL drive-away price to BIY will turn out to be.

I wanted the cheapest plinker franken-CAR I could get - and based on Internet prices from the many AR vendors, plus a couple special tools - AND local FFL xfer fee; the cost was at least a hair over $700.00. It may even have been a micro-tad more $$ as I couldn't get exact shipping costs on some things.

Anyway, if a BIY AR was as cheap as it was in days of old, I'd have stuck by the notion of a BIY.
But I passed on the satisfaction of a BIY and actually saved some very few ducats by buying a ready-to-run NIB Oly CAR-15 off of an FFL dealer at the last Wash Cty show.

    M&A CAR Kit $480+420 shipping = $500. Lower O.T.D. $121.90. Total $621.90

I placed the order for my Del-Ton kit on 5/29 at 9:29PM. I received the shipping notification from Del-Ton on 5/30 at 12:10 PM. UPS attempted to deliver the package on 6/3, but I work later than the driver delivers, so I called and had them hold the package at the depot and picked it up myself on 6/4. How's that for fast? My upper arrived with a tag attached to it that has my name on it. Kinda like 'This rifle belongs to Jennifer C.' Yes, I'm easily amused

Anvil Arms is an entirely different story. I've swapped numerous e-mail's with Jon, with the first one being my initial inquiry on April 30th. I wanted some custom images on my lowers, so I had to get a graphics company to modify my images to work with his software, which also took a few weeks with tweaks here and there. I finally placed my order on June 2nd, faxed 3 pages with billing info, FFL, etc. Fast forward to June 27th and I e-mailed for a status update and was told that my order had been misplaced. I faxed all the paperwork again on July 2nd and was told that they'd been out of lowers the entire time anyway, so them having my order for a month wouldn't have made a difference. I received an official "Sales Order from Anvil Arms" this time after faxing the info, and an expected ship date of July 25th to July 31st, so just make sure you get one of those via e-mail after you send your fax to them. Be aware that the lowers are currently on backorder and that a group of people over on AR-15.com have a group buy that will take a chunk (50 or so) of the shipment of lowers that he has coming in. I don't know how many he gets in at a time though, so the quicker you can get your order finalized, the better.

Trust me, it absolutely stinks having everything for an AR-15, but the lower to make it go BANG!

I see where the disconnect is... I was after the XM177 look.

The M&A (any of them actually...) kit that I was looking at was their XM177 kit for $460.00. Adding a chrome bolt and substituting an aluminum butt adds another $55.00. Then shipping and a lower.

I just got notification that my order is being shipped today. Pretty good considering I had to cancel my order and re-order on Monday. They were out of Knights Armament FF rails and the Magpul CTR. I decided to go with the Ace M4 Socom and I ordered rails from Larue. So now I will be installing the the FF rails myself. It does not look too hard to install the FF rails but does anyone know of any common mistakes newbs do when installing them and how to avoid them? Thanks
