Default Double Tap fudging their numbers?

I got a chance to run some of my 10mm rounds through my chrono and the following were my findings. 10 rounds were fired for each test using a Glock 20SF Gen 3 w/ 4.61" Lone wolf stainless barrel

    Double Tap 230gr(claims 1120fps)
    Min-944fps
    Max-982fps
    Spread-38fps
    Average-957fps

    Double Tap 200gr(claims 1250fps)
    Min-1070
    Max-1114
    Spread-44
    Average-1094

    Federal Hydrashock 180gr(claims 1030fps)
    Min-1008
    Max-1023
    Spread-15
    Average-1011

    Remington UMC 180gr(claims 1150fps)
    Min-1039
    Max-1083
    Spread-44
    Average-1052

    Federal 180gr lead cast(claims 1000fps)
    Min-896
    Max-955
    Spread-59
    Avg-929

It could be that these rounds were tested out of a 5" barrel but who knows. The double tap didn't perform much better than a 45+p round in similar bullet weights. I guess I'll be sticking with underwood or buffalo bore for my future purchases

Chronos can vary a bit however your findings have been proven by a LOT of other people over the years that have ran Double Tap ammo over the chrono. Double Tap's velocity numbers are over generous and a lot of people don't buy their ammo anymore.

I actually moved from Double Tap to Underwood myself a year or so ago based on both performance and cost.

It also depends on the gun. My glock 19 shoots the same loads as my M&P 9 Pro at about 100fps faster, and it has a shorter barrel.

Also, if a company uses a test barrel, that's what they are getting their numbers from.

You must know what the company uses as a test fixture. Many do not use a standard pistol for testing.

I just find it really funny how under powdered all the ammo is. My home rolled 180's chrono out if my G20 at 1120. And I think those are pretty weak. Just my standard IDPA load.

What a shame for store bought ammo. I wonder if Sigs new line of 10mm ammo will be any better ?
