I like the grip. Has a bit of over exaggerated teeth bite into the meat of your hand, but it is not nearly as bad as some of the "tactical" 1911 checkering I have felt. I like the angle (close to a 1911) though it is wide (double stack 45). I actually like the grip a lot, and it is one of the most well balanced and accurate "plastic" pistols i have ever shot. Very controllable with recoil being rearward push more so than an upward snap. They do have replaceable back straps to add a palm swell if you like that sort of thing.

I found my base model FNP 45 for $475 used about 5 years ago.. It was a set originally from one of the big sports stores that came with 3 mags and a Blade-tech holster and mag carrier Mine looked like it had less than 50 rounds through it. Maybe they did hate the grip...

New Tactical models (Threaded barrel, higher sights for use with a suppressor, replaceable Red dot mounting plate already cut into top slid) are going to be over $1,000.

FN stuff is not cheap, but it ain't HK prices either. You are getting serious quality for the price.
This exactly, I had some remorse after buying a FNX 45 (non tac) but quickly overcame after shooting it, it balances and points nicely, recoil is also more manageable than any .45 I've handled, mostly 1911's. the cheese grater grip was an issue but a quick remedy was raiding my wife's manicure kit and choosing the finest grit emory board ( about 1200-1500 grit) I gently kissed the tiny little molded pyramids to flatten the peaks a bit not much just a few strokes and a bit heaver at 2,4,8,&10 o'clock at the corners. What a difference in comfort and improved control and accuracy, worked so well I did my HK USP also.
I no longer have imprints of the grip texture in my palms. Go slow, you can always take away material but not put it back.

Grandpa is not pleased with all of the plastic that is being used in the structural load bearing components of modern firearms. Though Grandpa wears plastic, he is made of steel.
