Recipe for .223 for a Remington 700 5R Also CFE 223 Powder
Anyone have a good recipe for a 223 for a Remington 700 5r, looking for a good LOA, powder grain, etc. Looking for between 100-500 yards, have most pills available was thinking something 65-77grn. Think I am going to try that new CFE 223 powder if anyone has experience with that. Thanks in advance.

No experience with CFE. I use 22.9 of Varget or 22 of 335 for .223/5.56. That's for an AR though.

Varget is always good, but heads are a bit more important....so is loading mag length or longer. We could look up the twist and barrel length but it would be nice if you did that for us.
Personally, I start with the Nosler Ballistic Tip, Nosler Custom Competition and the Sierra Match King to start in a weight to match the twist. I load to mag length with about 2-3 powders to match the barrel length with a reputation of accuracy. I'll ladder test and find what it likes (after free floating and maybe some bedding) and then maybe branch out into the A-Max or a VLD sltyle bullet of I'm going LONG.
If this doesn't put you at .5 moa with a 5R we're doing it wrong.

I went through 4 lbs of CFE 223 under 55 gr FMJ BT, no issues or complaints, would use again.

I love the 77gr rounds, but I'm thinking his twist is 1:9 and mine always did better with the 62-69gr bullets.

Correct 1:9 twist out of a 20 inch barrel. Defiantly a sierra guy, so will stick with them. I usually use Varget, but have been interested to try the Cfe 223, in something besides by AR reloads. Its pretty clean and cheaper then Varget. Always like to ask what people are doing as one of the best loads I got was during a Fclass match for my 308, actually backed the powder down and it tightened up, was shooting with a guy who had the same riffle and we were sharing data. Thanks Guys
