    Default Northampton County Encounter

    Good afternoon,

I would appreciate some opinions on the encounter my wife had today.
She went to Northampton County Revenue on Emrick blvd. in Bethlehem today to pay our county taxes. Upon entering she saw a metal detector and realized she had her gun with her. She offered up her LTCF and the guy immediately said she needs to come with him "outside". At which point he aksed her for the gun and her permit. He then bombarded her with questions such as why do you have this ? would you really shoot someone etc.... he then took the gun and permit and locked them up. when she left he returned the gun and permit.
all in all from what i got from the wife is that he was very rude. And it seemed very strange that they had to go outside.

The revenue office is in a court house, right?

Yeah, the guy was a dick. I wouldn't have played 21 questions with the guy, at all. His job is to lock the gun up, no ask me why I feel the need to be armed, and I woild have told him as much. Did you get his name? Go and file a complaint.

+1 on filing a complaint. No need to be rude.

They have a rule that you have to go outside. It's a dumb rule.

As for the rest of it, sounded like he was a dick and she should complain to the Sheriff.

The main revenue office is in the Courthouse on Washington Street in Easton, but they have a sub office for revenue at the Emrick Boulevard office. The Sheriff's office is at the Courthouse.

Let us know how you make out with him.

If they are escorting me off court property then they are preventing my from doing my business. I'd be getting a lawyer.

Complain to the sheriff, who is a former NJ SS Trooper, appointed rather than elected as in every other county in the commonwealth.

Ungawa, why after all this time haven't you straightened that county office out?

When are these Northampton people going to get a referendum on a ballot to elect their sheriff like everywhere else?

If the sub-office on Emrick Boulevard is merely for revenue collection purposes, then it doesn't qualify as a court facility per Section 913. Any firearms restrictions would then be illegal.

Complaint on numerous grounds is warranted.
