I would love to take you up on that offer, but I definitely don't have the time right now. Maybe in about 2 years when I'm done with my certification (if I pass the rest of the exams on the first try). It definitely sounds like a good time.

Just wondering Dave...have you carried in any of the above places yet with your Sheriff's creds?
Could you qualify these statements please? I just grabbed this from 18USC926B:

    (c) As used in this section, the term ``qualified law enforcement
officer'' means an employee of a governmental agency who--
    (1) is authorized by law to engage in or supervise the
prevention, detection, investigation, or prosecution of, or the
incarceration of any person for, any violation of law, and has
    statutory powers of arrest;
We were told in the first post that the reserve does not have these powers.

Also, DaveM55, will you sponsor people you put on ignore?

Actually if you look at the info in the OP, I believe the Uniformed Reserve Division, of which Dave is a member, DO have arrest powers, it is the General Reserve that do not have them.

I believe Uniformed Reserve Division deputies are fully trained and certified LEOs...Dave...correct me if I mis-understood this.

Their official website, with all that info is here.

And you must be a resident of Allegheny County to apply.

Good job, Dave. That has to make you feel good

Yes but not as good as the little girl and family felt.

    Dave,

I just spoke with Ed Nassan.
He is going to send me an application in August. He said they are having all new apps printed and he will send me one when they're ready.

I guess there's no hurry on all of this. He said first meeting is in September and training doesn't start until January.

Training for the uniformed division starts in January every year like he stated. We only have one class per year. Training is normally one night a week at the County Police Academy and then for firearms it's both Saturday and Sunday every weekend for a month. Reserve's Firearms training is not held at the academy. The firearms training is really very good. It's an approved MPOETC course with certified LE firearms instructors.

Let me know if you need me to sign as a sponsor. We can meet up sometime.
    Sounds good!
    Thank you
