Trouble with Port Authority
There is a "park" in my town that is illegally banning firearms.
The Mayor's office claims it is run by the Port Authority and not the city, thus the prohibition can stand.
Anyone familiar with port authorities that can clue me in on their authority and whether or not they can officially ban firearm carry?Open Carry: it's whats for dinner.

Re: Trouble with Port Authority
It's not the only illegal thing going on.

The same port authority whose director was arrested for DUI & excessive speed in December. It's an organization who has gotten completely too big for their britches. They think their gods of some sort.
To answer your question I don't know what can be done other than providing a good education.
I wouldn't address it on the local level, go straight to the state level.
PennPorts is the state agency that is the liaison to Pennsylvania's ports on all port-related issues. In this role, PennPorts promotes and stimulates investment, waterborne tourism and statewide commerce by facilitating port development, assisting in the improvement of intermodal transportation and fostering Pennsylvania port competitiveness globally.

Re: Trouble with Port Authority
Doesn't the Supreme Court ruling on the Washington DC Ban apply to the Port Authority as well?

Re: Trouble with Port Authority
PennPorts is a state agency, and preemption does not apply. However, DCNR's prohibition is covered by a Regulation in the Pa. Code. No such regulation exists for PennPorts.
Sounds like a letter to your State Representative would be in order, at a minimum.
While you're at it, send one to the Governor (it's symbolic) and to the Executive Director of PennPorts. Ask what the lawful authority for such a prohibition is.
