The farm I hunt on has a small 1/2 acre of I believe hemlocks, half the trees have been damaged by the porcupines, anyone have any tricks for either trapping or eliminating them?

Porcupines can be real pricks. Maybe if you trap them they will get the point.

If you find one up in a tree do not stand or walk under it. I have seen them fall out of trees from pretty high up without suffering any injuries. This is the best time of the year to find them out during the day.

    Use moth balls.

If possible place the mothballs in a container filled with holes.

They are mean animals. They do not get much sex. When they do, it is very very carefully.

Not sure when the season is for them but they are suppose to be real good eating if you have a hunting license

I don't think you can hunt them..
At least in Canada you can't, they are survival food, the only animal that you can kill with a branch and eat raw..

Thanks for the replies. I've read where they seem to like salt and you can bait them with it in traps. It was sad to see what they did tothe trees, they got ta go.

You can hunt them and they have a season. You coukd talk to your local WCO about trap and transfer if they are causing damage.
