Default Do you have a plan?

All gun owners, especially new owners should make a plan. Decide how you want to go about being a gun owner. Research guns online and try to shoot as many calibers of guns as you can before buying. Focus on your needs. Are you a hunter that needs pistols, rifles, and shotguns to accomplish what you want? Are you planning to be a collector? If so research the best way and best guns to collect. Do you only want a gun for home defense? Should it be a shotgun or a pistol. Shoot shotguns and as many caliber pistols as possible. Find a pistol that feels comfortable in your hands and is dependable, and accurate. Learn where to keep it when sleeping and also when awake. Do you like revolvers or semi-autos best? If you are going to get a concealed carry permit, there is a lot to consider. Do you want a pocket pistol? If so get a good pocket holster for it. Do you want to carry IWB? If so look at some guns that are thin and easy to conceal. If you carry OWB an excellent holster is a must. The proper holster is actually very important no matter how you carry. IWB, OWB, pocket holster, shoulder holster?
So starting with looking at guns, moving on to holsters, and also look at buying a good gun belt. Then after you break a gun in and become accurate with it, look at defensive ammo available for your gun. Last, but not least, research gun cleaning/lube for your gun/guns. Keeping a gun cleaned and lubed properly is very important.
A good plan that takes you to your goal is something everyone should have. So don't just say: "I think I'll buy a gun". Do some research and shoot as many guns as possible and make a good plan for what you want. It will help you a lot through your gun buying process.

I'm heading to a gun show with that statement in mind. Lord knows what I'll come home with. Darn the madness!

Does anyone else find this to be a weird thread? It seems like an answer to an unasked question.

A wish list or want list, yes. A plan, no. This is a hobby and while gun ownership is serious business, it should be fun too.

A plan takes all the fun out of it.
