Unhappy Philadelphia auto show NO NO

The Pennsylvania Convention Center has a policy that NO ONE other than uniformed police officers are permitted to carry a firearm inside the convention center at any time. Anyone observed with a firearm inside the building will be escorted out of the building by Philadelphia Police. Please plan to leave your firearm at home when you attend the show.

Why would I go to anti-gun car show when I wouldn't go to anti-black rifle farm show?

Is the center publicly owned, as in owned by the city? If it is, I don't think they can legally prohibit firearms.

as things seem to heat up both home and abroad, why would anyone spend their leisure time anywhere a firearm is prohibited?

After going to my last PGH auto show I would never go unarmed... gang bangers kept taking selfies and posing in front of all the "high rollers".

That's odd because the city and state own the property, directly contradicting state law. The most recent renovations were paid for with tax dollars. The center is run by a board of directors who have hired a management company to run day to day operations. Labor is provided by six Philly unions. Notice the management co. doesn't lease the building, but just manage it, I don't believe their is a quasi-government 'Authority' in place either. This sounds like it may be a preemption violation.

The center (and its recent expansion) was financed by a hotel tax and state funding. It most certainly is a public building.

If the exhibit space is rented by a private party then I suppose they have the right to prohibit firearms there even though the property is city owned.

I ran into a similar problem during the Philadelphia Marathon a couple of months ago. The area around the finish line was gated and rented from the city by the marathon. Even though it was public property, it was still subject to bag searches, etc.

IANAL and I hope someone can prove this wrong.

    State owned building.
