Re: Looking for semi auto .22
I have a Sig Sauer Mosquito - and although it has gotten a bunch of bad press, mine has performed quite adequatly. It does like CCI Mini Mags better than other ammo, so thats a small negative.
Its good training for handling a "real" pistol since it looks and feels identical to the Sig p226 9mm. Sometimes the target pistols look and feel like you are handling some kind of futuristic laser weapon from a sci fi flick. If you are trying for superior accuracy, though, a "funny looking" target pistol might be a better choice...

Ahh geez... The first couple of times can be a bit tricky. Once you've done it a few times though it's easy. It's just different from your typical semi-auto. Please don't let the take down and reassembly be a factor deciding your purchase of a Ruger or not.
I absolutely love shooting mine.Μολὼν λάβε

We have a Ruger MK III and a Browning Buckmark. I personally take the Browning every time. Handle them both and go with which one you like better, can't really go wrong with either one and you can find em used at decent prices.

Re: Looking for semi auto .22
I must agree with an earlier poster. Once you learn the trick of reassembling a Ruger Mk II (for preference) it is child's play. If it reminds you of a Colt Woodsman, it should, as it is a similar method. Have two of the 5.5" barrelled variety with so many thousands of rounds through them that I stopped counting after 20K. Cannot go wrong and they are both accurate and built like a tank. Dave_n

Re: Looking for semi auto .22
I just bought a Phoenix HP22 just to shoot. It is fun to shoot. my cousin had one at is camp and we would put 500 rounds through it in a weekend. It is a cheap gun and it is cheap to shoot. I picked one up online at Auctionarms.com for $125. After shipping and transfer $155. $10 for shipping $20 for transfer (Todd at Gunrunners of PA member) cheap and fun to shoot.
You can also get the extended Barrel for target shootingLast edited by Jackel380; July 13th, 2008 at 07:35 PM.

Re: Looking for semi auto .22
Find a simple, plain jane used Ruger, any model, and you will be happy with it.

Re: Looking for semi auto .22
I would recommend a Walther P22. It is one of the best gun to teach someone with in my opinion. It has a slide, a hammer, thumb safety, it's single action and double. So in other words its many of the same features as most other higher caliber semi autos. Plus it has a threaded barrel and it looks awesome.
