Cleaning A Ruger 22/45 Crown Issue

Quick question, what would be the most effective way to get a patch and a brush through a 22/45 barrel without damaging crown since it is not possible to do it from chamber end that I can figure. Carbon rod? Some other inexpensive solution? I need to get remoil wipes down there as well. Thoughts?

Otis kit has cable brush and patches that go from the breach. Check Otis.

Remington may make something similar.

I have, on occasion, used:
Aluminum cleaning rod.
Bore snake.
Thin wooden dowel from the hobby shop.

Put the rod down the bore and then put the patch on the slotted tip. Pull through. That's cleaning from the breach. Don't push the patch in from the muzzle. Use care. You won't kill the crown.

I think I'd "Takedown" the pistol, that would also give you access to the firing-pin and other internals.

I've heard that the 22/45,is not easy to break down.

I can attest with authority that the 22/45 is a royal PITA to break down, but it's the best way to get it clean. You can access the chamber easily from where the bolt normally goes, when it's apart. You should learn how it works anyways, as especially the Mark III versions have issues with the loaded chamber indicator getting carboned up and causing missfeeds.

I've had two Rugers...a standard, and a Mark I Target, since the 50s. Unless things have changed (I know a Mark III hasn't...I cleaned one for a friend) the take-down is not difficult, and neither is re-assembly. Do it a few times and it will come to you. Hint: when re-assembling, let gravity work for you and pay attention to where the hammer strut is and know where you need it to be.

ETA: Some barrels fit the frame lug very tightly. A plastic mallet will be the tool.

Bang calls it correctly, read the manual then follow the instructions to the letter. Ruger posts manuals on their website. The Mark III will not fire without a mag so you need to use one in this process. Safety first: no ammo near the cleaning bench and triple check gun and mag before starting.

Gravity is the key, there is a sequence of pointing the muzzle up, level, down, and up to complete reassembly. The first time you will hit two challenges, pushing the pin through the bolt/recoil spring and getting the hammer strut just right. Take your time as there is a level of fiddlefarting until it works. As Bang states once you do it a couple of times it becomes easier, still a PITA but easier.
