I have heard a few causes. Tectonic plates shifting is one. Meteorites entering the atmosphere is another. I did not hear anything.

Coincidentally, I was in Pittston visiting my mom when this boom occurred. I did not hear it either. It seemed to be localized to the Dallas area. One of the secretaries who works in my office posted on Facebook that she heard/felt it there.

Meteor with alien lifeforms on board. It landed in the river. They are growing. Soon, very soon they will appear.
