    Default Mounting a scope

This past week I was told a story about a guy who bought a new rifle and could not get it to sight in. This was relayed to me by a guy at work. So facts are a bit short. The guy I work with went to visit the guy with the new rifle over the holidays. The new rifle came with a scope mounted on it.

So new rifle guy tell the visitor he can not get the scope sighted. The visitor says lets take a walk out back and see what we can do. After a few shots the visitor tries to make an adjustment, only to discover the scope is mounted in the wrong orientation. The up/down and left/right turrets were rotated into the wrong position. The visitor tells new rifle guy that the scope is mounted wrong and new rifle guy says " that does not matter".

I never really gave this much thought. Does it matter?

It shouldn't matter if you can remember down for right, right for up, up for left, left for down!

Not sure how that would be possible, if you rotated the scope to where the l/r turret was on the wrong side the u/d would be on the bottom against the receiver. If that was the case the l/r would work opposite.

After seeing what Jaydheno said I suppose it could work if it were only rotated 90 degrees, I was thinking 180 degrees.

You could sight in, but my OCD would not allow me to do this...

If you rotate counter clock wise.

Yeah really, not sure why the guy wouldn't take 2 minutes to loosen the screws and spin it, lol.

I agree. The visitor offered to do that. The new rifle guy insisted to take it back to the shop.

If the reticle is symetrical, the scope is zeroed and left alone with no side focus it really wouldn't matter. Just makes you look like an idiot that can't even mount a scope right.

This post goes to show that not everyone with a firearm has any intelligence.
