CC pistol recommendations?
Buyin a new CC pistol in a few weeks, and looking for some recommendations to check out.
What I would like:
Sub-Compact (not nececarily pocket size, though can be)
DA/SA (no SA only) preferably with a decent trigger
Somewhat shootable (at least not painful to practice with)
Fairly accurate
Prefer .45 or .40, but 9mm or .380 isn't out of the question
Ambidextrous controls (or at least lefty friendly)
Under $500
Looking to replace my Star M40. So basically, I'd like the same size or smaller. Definitely a bit lighter (that Star is a heavy, all steel frame)
Right now I'm debating an XDs/XDm or M&P. I've shot both (prefer the XD), but am not sure what else is out there in similar specs. Is there a Kahr, Ruger, or Walther I should be looking at? How about a Sig or HK (open to buying used)
Any recommendations are welcome. Just want to flush out all my options before I buy something.

Re: CC pistol recommendations?
If your looking into the XDs then why not look into Glock.
I have a G30s & it's perfect.
I refused to look into Glock years ago. The grips sucked IMO. I've owned Springfields, Bersas, Rugers, Stogers, Kel-TEC. I was in the market for a new CC myself and looked into the G30 and found the G30s and it fit perfectly.

Ruger sr40c, sr9c would be in the price range. The new version of the lc9 is also getting good reviews. Kahr makes a lot of compact guns. Cm 40 or cm9 are really concealable and would come in under budget. I'm not that familiar with the walthers. I have a friend that just switched to a ppx for his edc and he loves it though.
On a side note, if you're thinking of getting rid of the star shoot me a pm. I might be interested.
Edit: forgot about the s&w shield. More compact than the m&p and comes in 9 and 40.Last edited by R L Suehr; December 27th, 2014 at 12:14 PM.

Re: CC pistol recommendations?
Aside from trying out different pistols, take at look at nutnfancy reviews on youtube and a couple other groups that do reviews on firearms. nutnfancy seems to do a pretty good job of keeping personal biases out of their reviews but are not ashamed to tell you what they are so you know where they are coming from. There is another older gentleman (hikok45) on youtube that does reviews as well that seems to do a decent impartial review. Both seem to be independent, so there isn't as much bias as a reviewer who is being paid to do a review buy a firearm manufacturer.

Keep all the great suggestions (and any opinions) coming. Gives me fodder to research in the next few days!

Another vote for the SIG 2022. It's not all that compact, but can easily be concealed with the right holster. The 2022, in my opinion, is one of the absolute best values in handguns. I don't like da/sa guns, but at the prices these guns sell for and the quality you get, they're hard to beat.
There's no such thing as a free lunch.

Re: CC pistol recommendations?
1. Go to a gun shop that has a nice variety
2. Put offerings from glock, S&W, springfield, sig, etc in your hand and try out the triggers
3. Choose whatever fits your hand best and has a trigger that is up to your standards(+1 if you have a range that has rentals)
4. Go online and check reviews/pricing out for those that you favored
5. Post pics and range report after you buy it
No need to get into a caliber war but 9mm will probably be the happy medium in a smaller framed pistol
