    Op,
I think you should wait till you can spend a little more and just get the Sig Scorpion you really want. They are really nice guns. I have a Sig Tac-ops and it is awesome!

I thought of having one installed, but have reconsidered. Moneywise it doesn't make sense with the fitting, parts, and refinish cost. My advice, get a midrange with bt with better than GI sights.
Don't know if you are aware of the Wilson drop-in beavertail G.S., or if it would fit your Tisas?
But, I recently put one in my Para P12 and it dropped right in, no fitting/refinishing required, and looks and feels great. I can post or send pics of mine if you want some.

I was looking at a Caspian frame fitted to a RIA slide and parts from SARCO. Should run about $350-400 when said and done, + money for the inevitable screw up....

Might be wiser just to look for a higher end on the used market...

If you can get all the parts for $350-400 I would say go for it. I tried going thru the math a few years ago and it didn't work out. If I remember right it was more than that for a frame, slide and a cheap barrel.

I guess parts are easier to find now. Can you post your sources? I might have to think about it again.

I am aware and asked Brian of EFR about them since he has experience doing this with Tisas 1911's and he informed me it still requires fitting to avoid "the gap".

$600 just buy a RIA and be done with it. Spend the rest on ammo.

Unless you are a guy who has tons of free time and access to loads of tools for metal working, buy an inexpensive 1911 and modify over time.

Sometime around 1982, I embarked on a "build your own" 1911 project and the gun is still in pieces in a box in my basement. I've bought five 1911s to actually shoot in that time.

You may as well just fork over $3000 for a Wilson Combat CQB & get it over with. Once you get a 1911, you'll be sneaking onto Wilson Combat's web site late at night, when nobody's around & slobering over their 1911 porn into the wee hours of the morning.

1911 fever is not pretty. Buy a Glock & save yourself the shame.

    Slide parts kit: http://www.e-sarcoinc.com/45serratedslidekit.aspx

    Caspian Stuff: http://item.brownells.com/categories...arts/index.htm

    Etc. Smaller parts are cheaper.....

Now I do have a shop and am mechanically inclined (I'm an engineer). For those of you who have built one before, how much of a PITA is it? I understand its not a slap together AR like I'm accustomed to building, but as a fun project, will it actually be fun or more pull-my-hair-out?
