So, what is it? Inquiring minds want to know.
I bet it is a 1911 from WW1 in pristine condition.

I agree with what most have said that it's a gift and no ffl required. I even think the ATF says that you can buy a gun for someone as long as it doesn't fall under their definition of a straw purchase such as any money changing hands. I would say carry it and don't worry about it.

There is no gun registry in Pa. I even called the SP when I moved back to Pa. several years ago, asking about it. What there is, is a State Police database of sales and transfers, which in the strictest definition of the law is not legal. This database is built up from sales and transfers, which are sent to the State Police. This is the database that LEO in Pa. use to check a firearm.
That about sums it up. Many here say it can't/won't/don't happen , but it does. I've learned there is a difference between PA state law , and PA State Police 'regulations'. Local cops are a crap-shoot! Police can and often will 'run' the numbers/make/model to see if it is reported stolen , or in the PSP record of sale database , which is being used as an illegal registry. It has also happened , that if the pistol is not in the registry , or recorded as having been sold to you , it gets confiscated till you prove ownership to their satisfaction. Just what that is may vary from officer to officer , dept to dept.

I had a pistol confiscated that I bought while I was stationed in Tennessee in the early '80s. Luckily I had the receipt. You can bet it's in their database now!

Well it's about 10 minutes shy of 24hrs when I asked what it is and no response so not I think we can start to make assumptions as to what it is.

    Here's my guesses.

    Could it be this?

    Or maybe this?

This is true. Unfortunatly if the pd stops you and the handgun is not listed on the sales data base as yours you may get hassled about it.

If you are an NRA member, this might be a good test case of the phony registry, don't you think? How can any LEO confiscate your weapon without any proof that it is not yours? How many thousands of guns that were brought into Pa. from out of state are not in that registry? I have a 43 year old rifle that isn't on any database. I bought it in NY in 1971, then took it to Va., and brought it to Pa. when I moved back 11 years ago. I have no idea where the receipt is.
