in my own personal opinion the 40 is better than a 9mm but not as good as a 45ACP. BUT it is better to carry what you can shoot well. Accuracy is everything. it doesn't matter one whit which is better if you can't hit where you want.

no service caliber is a good man stopper, and IMO none are better than others and it all comes down to shot placement. My fav. round is .40 and I carry it, but if you can shoot a 9 more accurate carry it.

If you can carry it (and do carry it) as long as you shoot reasonably accurately... do so.

As Ayoob says "a .380 in your pocket is better than a .44 mag at home in your closet."
"The rifle is the weapon of democracy. If guns are outlawed, only the government will have guns. Only the police, the secret police, the military. The hired servants of our rulers. Only the government-and a few outlaws. I intend to be among the outlaws." (Edward Abbey, "The Right to Arms," Abbey's Road [New York, 1979])
I have my rifle. Do you?

thanks, cause I love to carry my G27 with 2 mags with +2 bottom and two more in my belt of a 22 or 23 +2 bottoms, those are 17 rounders,my KT P3AT is always in my back pocket, and sometimes I carry my CW9,but Im real comfy with the G27 and is superb in accuracy, this glock is a pleasure to shoot, night sights, high cap mags and I really like the +2 original glock bottoms, they accept more ammo, looks good and help a lot with the grip of the gun ,no recoil almost at all,am a big guy,well,5'8 and 210 pounds,is relatively soft to shoot,I like magtech guardian gold, someone has a better brand for SD ammo? inputs are really well welcome and sorry for too many questions but is always good to learn from other people experience...Ralph.

think I read somewhere that a .40 has 98% knock down power over a .45 that is something like 96%....I'm at my Moms now and don't have the website, so I'll see if when I get home, I can dig it up.

As someone mentioned, if you can't hit what you're shooting at, then what's the point....

I have an XD 40 and the recoil is pretty damn snappy, so if it's too much for you, then step down to a different caliber...

My carry gun is a Taurus 24/7 Pro .40 Cal. I usually shoot the .40 JHP either Hornady, Remington or Winch. It's ver accurate! If you happen to buy one, you have to get used to the Heinie sights 8 ! Lots of stopping power!

If you take a look at the Federal HST line just comparing muzzle energy and velocity heres what they say. This is just for comparisons sake and i am not saying that one is better than the other these are just the raw numbers.

These first 2 are off the boxes I currently have sitting in front of me.

165 gr 40 S&W HST at the muzzle
    1140 fps
    470 ft-lbs

230 gr 45 ACP HST at the muzzle
    890 fps
    405 ft-lbs

Oh and i just found the 45 +P on the website.

230 gr 45 +P HST at the muzzle
    950 fps
    461 ft-lbs
