    Is that true?

I thought you just can't ACTUALLY sell it.

You can sell anything you own. It's yours.

You can sell your builds, if you make a habit of it they will catch on ..... manufacturing without a license comes to mind, and you know how they hate not getting money

You can build a firearm yourself and then later sell it if you want. When you build one, it does not have to have any markings on it. If you decide to sell it at a later time you do not have to mark it (I incorrectly stated before this edit that you had to. I was corrected and did some research which corrected me also), Now, that said, if you buy all the parts to build even a single firearm with the intention from the beginning of selling it, you have broken the law. A single (or maybe even a few) sale(s) might fly under the radar, but if done regularly, you probably will get caught.

What do you find strange about it? Just wondering.

These laws have been on the books for a long time...nothing new. It is illegal to manufacture a firearm for sale without an FFL & manufacturer’s license(as well as a host of other things.. business license, etc.). However, it’s absolutely legal to sell your possessions as you please! As Xringshooter already stated, if it is ever sold, you must first engrave a serial number in the receiver/frame(this is the actual item that is listed as a “Firearm”).

Strange that if you build something with the intent of selling it, that is illegal.
But if you build something not intending to sell it, but do sell it, that is legal.

If you do make it legal at all, why should intent matter? The end result is the same: make a rifle and sell it.

Seems like if they wanted any consistency, they would just make it illegal to make a rifle without being suitably licensed, period. This is a rare instance of government “under reach”.

I mean, imagine a world where if you INTEND to kill your wife when you marry her, that is illegal. But if you decide to kill her 2 years into your marriage, that would be just fine.

LOL. Your scenario doesn’t quite compare, but funny. BUILDING your own firearm & SELLING your own firearm are both Legal actions. Doing it once or even twice over a period of time COULD happen in a person’s life. No problem. But if it’s being done again & again, the person is obviously trying to profit from the sale of firearms. Same applies to people who BUY & SELL firearms. Doing it specifically for profit, WITHOUT an FFL & business license, is a No-No! Obviously a person with intent for profit is planning on more than One sale.

Also all NFA rules still apply to building your own firearm from an 80% receiver.
