Using someone else's treestand?
Curious what the populous thinks about someone using someone else's tree stand when they are not using it (fixed ladder stand).. Assuming everyone can hunt on the property?

Re: Using someone else's treestand?
If it's on private land and I know all parties involved I'll just ask the individual. If on public land I usually take a piss and keep going.

When you are called a racist, it just means you won an argument with an Obama supporter.

Re: Using someone else's treestand?
Deer don't like the smell of it. Putting up fixed stands on public property is no different than some asshole trying to reserve a spot for a parade by placing chairs out along the parade route the night before. It annoys me when people try to lay claim to something that isn't theirs. You want either spot, get up early and go get it. Everyone else has as much right to it as you do.

Re: Using someone else's treestand?
I was raised to not even walk on other people's lawns without permission, so no, I wouldn't use it unless I had permission first.

Re: Using someone else's treestand?
There was an article written about tree stands on public property. I'll have to see if I can find it.
From what I recall, if no one is on it, you can use the stand. In fact, the article even went on to say that you could remove that particular stand and put up your own on the same tree. Placing a stand on public property gives you no rights to that area or tree.
Using that stand would be no different from using a rock someone placed under a tree to use as a seat, or sitting in a ground blind constructed from downed limbs. Yes, the rock and limbs were already in the woods, but by gathering them you essentially made a "stand" that can be used by whoever gets their first.
Just because you hauled in several pieces of aluminum and left it on public property doesn't put a magic bubble around that stand. And it would not be trespassing to use that stand as their would be no private property rights associated with it, while on public property. Same as with the rock or ground blind.
Personally, I wouldn't use someone else's stand. I have climbed up them to see the view and try and figure why it was put in this particular spot.

Re: Using someone else's treestand?
I am a bit surprised to even see the question.
-It belongs to someone else
-the fact that you are asking us implies you do not have permission from the owner
Just the question seems so leftist to me.
If I found your car/truck in a parking lot, unlocked, should I consider getting in, to get out of the rain? Not to take it, just to sit in it while you are not using it.
