Re: All things AR-15 and variants from newbie to advanced. Find answers here.
I'm helping a neighbor do a build with a 18" barrel & rifle length gas system, which I've no experience.
Do I need something different than a carbine spring & buffer?"It seems that the Constitution is more or less guidelines than actual rules"

If he’s not using an A2 stock I would go with a standard buffer and spring. I found the 18” barrel abs rifle length combo to be problematic with cheap ammo so I could not keep it in an A2 configuration. If he has no issues with his ammo of choice and wants to play with recoil he can try an heavier buffer.

No. Rifle length gas system has nothing to do with your choice of a stock. An adjustable Magpul type still uses the standard carbine tube, spring and buffer. If you decide to use a solid one piece ‘rifle’ stock (A2 config), you will need a longer rifle tube & spring. Keep in mind most A2 rifle stocks also need a set screw at the butt end.
I’ve built plenty of 18” mid length and rifle length guns with standard carbine springs and buffers, no issues!Resistance to tyrants is obedience to God.

Someone had asked about builds and I had posted a few vids, but I can't recall where it was, so I'm putting this here.
A pretty clear (not the best vid I've seen, but not bad) step by step for assembling a lower.

This a pretty good detailed video on FULL assembly of the entire rifle.
I just used this as a quick "double check" as I was doing a build.
He fudges a few terms, but overall, it's pretty good, and easy to follow.
