Backpacks
So I know that we're to wear orange all around while hunting deer in PA, so how does one make use of a backpack while attempting to comply with blaze requirement? Carrying a shoulder bag is getting old and looking to get something I can put on my back to spread the weight around.

Re: Backpacks
Wear an orange hat and jacket. The combined square inches of the hate and sleeves should make you legal. If you are still in doubt safety pin an orange hunting vest (or other piece of blaze orange approx. 10x10) to the backpack. You can but blaze orange material at Joann Fabrics.

Re: Backpacks
buy an orange backpack might work. or, have the little woman sew an orange patch onto the existing backpack. Or, if you are a Veteran, you could stitch one on yourself, you know, because vets know stuff like how to sew on stripes and insignia, stitch wounds, etc......

Re: Backpacks
I hadn't concerned myself with the requirement in the past as I always wear a camo blaze vest over my camo along with a blaze hat, but I'm not keen on having to forgo using my existing jackets that I paid some good money for that are in camo. Pinning orange on the pack may be an option.

Re: Backpacks
I wondered this too. Last year after season, I bought a Badlands waist pack with shoulder straps, and it will cover a significant area of my orange vest. I might be able to put the vest on over the pack, but I haven't experimented yet. Love the pack, though. Got tired of hiking the former waist pack up all the time. The straps do a great job of distributing the load. Once I get to my stand the pack comes off anyhow. It should only be a problem when still hunting and needing something out of the pack. We'll see.

Re: Backpacks
My camo bag has a orange flap that can be pulled out while walking.
When not in use, it folds nicely into a zippered pocket.FOAC Member, NRA Member

Re: Backpacks
I wear a pumpkin vest over my expensive camo gear that I get more than 2 weeks out of a year, and imagine wrapping one around your pack would suffice.

Re: Backpacks
My backpacks are ALICE packs, large and medium. I have a small, fleece vest that I would wear over my rain gear, so I just fold it and stick it on the pack.
If I'm wearing a blaze orange jacket, I don't worry about the pack.

Re: Backpacks
I picked up a small Cabelas orange bag last year from the Hamburg store. Cheap, 20 bucks or close to that.
