1873 Springfield
Hey,
I am considering purchasing an 1873 in fair condition. the serial number is 209585. Can anyone tell me an approximate production date or where to find it? I have done a little googling to little avail.
Thanks,
Rob

Re: 1873 Springfield
I had one fron 1888, IIRC, the long infantry rifle, not the carbine. Great fun to shoot. Made up loads using Speer loading book-they had a section just for trapdoors. Did some hunting with it, but not successful. Really did enjoy it as a range rifle, though, and the .45-70 is great to load.
