Re: Another S&W
Nice gun. I don't know the current market value but it would be worth that price if I was buying it.

If the inside looks as good as the outside I would buy it.

You like it? Buy it. Don't worry about he price on old smith and wessons they will look cheap in comming years. Mabe I shouldn't encourage he competition.

Re: Another S&W
That looks like an awesome deal. It appears that those are the original grips. It's got the long throw hammer, pinned barrel, and half-moon site. I'm assuming it's a five screw model.
If the timing and everything else checks out fine, then that gun would typically go north of 500.
These old smiths are wonderful pieces of craftsmanship, back when all the parts where made from billet steel, hand fitted and polished by REAL gun makers who took pride in what they created. And, they are robust; I've heard stories of these guns going 100,000 rounds of wadcutters.
They don't make ANYTHING like they made these anymore.

Re: Another S&W
Almost a perfectly, scaled down copy of my mint condition 1917... I have never owned, and I don't think ever handled a better made "factory" revolver than my 17... Perfect timing, bank vault tight, crisp as hell, fantastic trigger, workmanship at a level that is unreal for a "lowly" military sidearm. Jesus are firearms from earlier times nice!!! Yes, Pythons in their day were super nice, but for a military sidearm, the level of workmanship/fit finish of these Smiths is crazy. I have seen some early Colt Police Positives that exuded the same quality, and I sold them for $135/ea in the late 80's.
You did extremely well, and I would have paid a LOT more for it...
