    Default Modifying Colt Official Police?

I have one in great shape (4") I picked up for a song about 30 years ago that has not seen 100 rds. from me. Still tight and right. It was made in '69, the last year they were made I believe. Been thinking about turning it into something I might use more often, even carry. That would mean having the barrel shortened. But after looking at used prices I wonder if they are collectable/desireable old classics or maybe a platform to create a concealable 6 shooter? I'm thinking with the right grips and a 2.5 - 3" barrel that action would make a great carry. Thoughts?

I would keep it untouched. Buy something else more appropriate for carrying.

It sounds like you want a colt cobra, I love mine and is perfect for my pocket. Mine is a '53 with 2" barrel and aluminum frame so it's very lightweight. My local range recently had 3 for sale at reasonable prices but the last time I looked they were gone. Lock's always has some in stock though.
Go head, skin it. Skin that smoke wagon and see what happens.

they are collectable. I would not modify it. once cut it would be gone forever. i carried a 4" ruger security-six for years with out problems . I have one with a 6" barrel I used for matches.

You can get one for under $400. I paid 399 for my early 70's version in great shape. For about the same price as destroying One colt, you can have both

Go ahead and chop it up. It will make the rest of the ones in original condition worth just a little bit more...
You don't have enough guns untill you don't know how many you have.

Agree with the posts that say not to modify it. Put it in the safe and buy what you want.

Thank you gentlemen, it sounds like a Cobra is indeed what I want. As I'm not a collector I will look to sell/trade the Official Police towards one.

FWIW - I have one in my safe that I bought in 1972 for $25.00

Wouldn't sell it for $500.00 I really like that gun.
