Default Survival training -- slighty off topic

    All,

A friend of mine asked me if I knew some place that was offering "survival training" (not sure exactly what he includes under that term). I told him that I didn't but I expected that someone here would be able to point him in the right direction or suggest where to look. I think he's interested in basic survival techniques for SHTF day.

Anyone have any advice? He lives in Indiana, PA but seemed willing to travel..

    Thanks.

    Just another gun-toting liberal

"According to the General Social Science Survey, about 30% of people who describe themselves as Liberal own a handgun. That works out to about 8 million gun toting Liberals, and doesn't even include moderates or long-gun owning Liberals."

Forum member "pinto" offered classes this past year but has since deployed and won't be available again until 2009 IIRC.

Dunno what you're friend has in mind but pinto was offering straight-away stuff as opposed to the "EOTWAWKI / bunker / zombie" mentality.

We're going to sponsor host his classes when he gets back.

For now you can visit his website and DL a brochure.

Thumbs up Re: Survival training -- slighty off topic

    Greater Pittsburgh Council, Boy Scouts of America. Of course, if he's in Indiana, then he'll want Penn's Woods Council, BSA. Here's their website;

Scout Executive is a friend of mine - he'll be glad to see him!

Boy Scouts of America actually is a pretty good choice.

And F.I.R.E. Institute for weapons training would be a good choice.

Start there. If you need more. Keep looking.

If you can't survive one night in the woods comfortably, then you need the basics anyway. Carrying simple supplies in your car or a light pack any time you leave the house can be a great start.

I'm B-I-G on basics. MOST folks can manipulate a firearm (by "manipulate," I am NOT insinuating, "Camp Perry Champion," FYI). In an evac situation, or, "everybody-takes-to-the-hills" scenario, I foresee a lot MORE people, sitting around in their car that first night, staring at a can of cold Spaghetti-O's, because NOBODY has a pocketknife with a can opener on it, much less, knows how to build a fire without matches to cook them.

Car has Water, Space Blankets, matches, lighter, maps, knife, couple snacks, flashlight, wet wipes, whistle, fire starter, rope, first aid kit, all the time.

I have a camelback with all the above, plus more for whenever I go hiking or biking. It stays packed so all I have to do is grab it and go.

You would be surprised how many times I have used this stuff just every day. People are surprised when I pull an item out of my bag or car that they need.

They tell you that everyone should have enough food, water and fuel to cook with for one week in your house all the time. Yet, most people don't have this in there house. This should get you thru a weather emergency. A true survialist will start at home and reach out from there.

Better to have it and not need it. Than to need it and not have it.

BASICS RULE. The rest gets easy from there.
