Carrying at the John Heinz-Tinicum wildlife refuge?
From what I've read on their site, they are federal, so I know I wouldn't be able to carry in the buildings on the grounds. But what about the refuge itself? Is a refuge the same as a state park?
Here is a link to their site: http://www.fws.gov/refuge/John_Heinz/
I don't see any prohibitions (except for hunting) but wanted to make sure.
Thanks for any and all help.Last edited by Tmygun; October 23rd, 2014 at 04:13 AM.

Re: Carrying at the John Heinz-Tinicum wildlife refuge?
From what I can find online, NWR's (National Wildlife Refuges) are covered same as Parks.
That being said, I can't find the actual legal code, so I'm not 100% sure. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) is under the same Department of the Interior (DOI) as the National Park Service (NPS) but FWS is NOT the NPS.FOAC Volunteer. NREMT-P. NRA Pistol/Rifle/Shotgun Instructor & RSO. BSA Rangemaster. Act 235.

Re: Carrying at the John Heinz-Tinicum wildlife refuge?
The Tinicum refuge IS under the National Wildlife Refuge System (administered by the Department of the Interior). Link.
As such the DoI regulatory powers are encumbered with respect to firearms under 16 USC 1a-7b and in particular:
(b) Protecting the right of individuals to bear arms in units of the National Park System and the National Wildlife Refuge System
The Secretary of the Interior shall not promulgate or enforce any regulation that prohibits an individual from possessing a firearm including an assembled or functional firearm in any unit of the National Park System or the National Wildlife Refuge System if-
(1) the individual is not otherwise prohibited by law from possessing the firearm; and
(2) the possession of the firearm is in compliance with the law of the State in which the unit of the National Park System or the National Wildlife Refuge System is located
Note: you cannot possess in Federal facilities therein under 18 USC 930:
The term "Federal facility" means a building or part thereof owned or leased by the Federal Government, where Federal employees are regularly present for the purpose of performing their official duties.IANAL

Sorry I'm late to the response, but I've open carried there on my weekend walks many times with no problem. The buildings are posted as no firearms.

I was there last weekend. Concealed without a problem. Saw no signs saying anything regarding firearms. Just keep it tucked in and you'll fine.
Did manage to get a glimpse of the bald eagle. That was super cool.==============
