Default would you trust a milsurp as a main defensive gun

Hey guys and gals! I have talked to several people and have mixed reviews. I sometimes carry a cz70 but I know it wouldn't be my go to gun for home defense. I know some people just have 1 or 2 guns, but would you trust your life on it? I know that any weapon can malfunction, but I also know some people that only put half a box of ammo through something and say "thats good enough". Whats yalls option?

better than nothing, and personally dont have any experience with that particular gun, but i know i have read many posts saying that they carry X old milsurp for Z number of years. if the gun is mechanically sound i dont see why it would be such a bad idea other than weight and generally ammo capacity. some of those milsurps had to go through some tough testing to be adopted

Yep that's kinda where I'm at too. They were tested for more use than mine will ever see. Also I too carried a mak for a while. Traded it and kinda miss it! Great summer carry gun

Just to play the devils advocate, of course just because a couple were tested doesn't mean all of them were fit and finished the way the tested ones were. I remember reading about original 1911's that couldn't hit a pie plate at 25 yards. Just saying

    Will it shoot?
    Well sure it will.

    Can it stop someone?
    Well sure it can.

Is it better then a sharp stick and a rape whistle?
    Well sure it is.

If I had my choice would I carry a outdated designed firearm for personal Defense?

    Absolutely not.

If you can see that it's not good for home defense then why would it be acceptable for CC? Your life worth less when your are out of the house? In today's market there are so many affordable concealed carry hand guns out there in the 3 major modern service calibers that there is little excuse to carry an out dated platform in a seriously under powered cartridge. Unless its a back up or truck gun.

I have a very large collection of C&R and military surplus pistols and revolvers they are all great firearms and everyone I own functions reliably on the range however you wont see me carrying a Type-14 Nambu around Walmart in Easton tomorrow. If it's all you can afford at the time being then that's a different story but I would advise saving a few bucks and upgrading.

I have a CZ70 and I would have no worries about using it to defend myself. Using good ammo it is reliable as any of my handguns. As long as it is maintain, it will fire when needed. Just don't dry fire it or you might break the firing pin. It is simple to replace. I would not CC due to it's size and weight. Although my main CC is a PPK. And the CZ70 is based off the PP and PPK design.
