Re: would you trust a milsurp as a main defensive gun
i wouldn't have a problem carrying a milsurp pistol for self defense, most of these guns are military/police side arms and great weapons for the money. the down side to these guns is the weight, location of the mag release and some have horrible triggers.

Re: would you trust a milsurp as a main defensive gun
Can you wrap an exact age around "outdated," please? The Glock design is 30-35 years old. The 1911 is 103 and change years old (or 86 years old for the A1).
I'd trust my life with either of these "outdated" designs and/or their available calibers.
So, help again with your criteria, and be specific this time.

Re: would you trust a milsurp as a main defensive gun
I carry a 1960 hi=power made for the Belgian army. at home I have a 1917 s&w in .45 a.c.p. I have at times carried a star in 9mm largo, a 1896 mauser, a 1911 made by Remington-rand . the newest I have carried is my ruger security six made in 1976.

Mil specs on US firearms are tighter than civilian. So if you're talking US mil surplus I would say better than civilian. As for other countries, don't know.

Re: would you trust a milsurp as a main defensive gun
I guess as far as age I was talking more mid 70's and earlier. As far as manufacturer, my mind went straight to the foreign countries, especially during war time when production might have gotten sloppier due to machinery running non stop and the possibility of less than skilled labor. I know that the usual milspec is usually tighter than civilian spec especially now a days, but during times of crisis things might not be able to be the same. The last ditch Ariska's come to mind for example. Yes I would tell the intruder to get a marshmallow out of the cabinet so I could eat it toasted after I shot him with the m44! Lol! Maybe the Draco or plr16 would be a better choice! Lol!

Re: would you trust a milsurp as a main defensive gun
I mainly carry a 30 year old ex-Polizei Sig that some german cop carried for over 20 years. It's worn, lots of the bluing is gone, but it's very accurate and works. I have my 1936 K31 7.5 Swiss for home defense too and I'm gonna add one of those long bayonets to it as well. I also have the old Suomi M31 with WW2 71 round drum.

Re: would you trust a milsurp as a main defensive gun
I was wondering the same thing. I'd consider a matchlock to be somewhat outdated but not a CZ 70. The P08 is outdated but I'd still feel comfortable being armed with one.
Maybe guns are outdated and untrustworthy if they aren't made out of plastic.
Outdated guns that I have that I would willingly use to defend myself and home:
Walther PP
Ballester-Molina
1911A1
S&W Model 10 (it's a revolver after all)
Remington 870 (pump shotgun? OMG!)
CETME
M1 Garand
I'm sure that there are more . . .
I don't think that I have any "indated" guns.

Yep I'd use the suomi for home defense! Worst case, it would work great as a club!
