Firearms International Corporation was an importer and dealer in firearms in the 1950s and 1960s located in Washington, D.C. At one time they sold FN commercial rifles and various handguns.
Long gone.

He hit it. I can add a little. The FN Mauser actions that they were built on was basically a 98 Mauser design with an altered bolt handle to clear a scope. They were one of the smoothest and strongest bolt actions ever built. The stocks were plain Jane but functional. The ones I had the opportunity to shoot were very accurate, usually shooting minute of angle. They are a very functional and reliable hunting rifle.
The older I get, the better I used to be.

Re: need help indentifying a rifle
As best as I can tell there is only two mfgs of firearms in Belgium, I could be wrong, but thats all i could find. Below is some info I dug up. Are there any proof marks or cartouches on it? can you put a pic in the forum? being that Francotte concentrated on high-quality, expensive civilian arms, it is probably safe to say its a Browning.
Garcia Sporting Arms Corp. in Teaneck, New Jersey, absorbed Firearms International Corp. of Washington, D.C., in 1971 or '72. Most guns were imported from Italy, and both Taurus and Rossi have FIC of Washington, DC as customers.
Francotte is a weapons manufacturer in Liège, Belgium. It can be traced back to 1805, and is still in operation today. During the first decades they manufactured various arms for various nations around Europe, among others 1,500 M1849 kammerladers for Norway. Later they concentrated on high-quality, expensive civilian arms.
Fabrique Nationale de Herstal, more often abbreviated as Fabrique Nationale or simply FN, is a Belgian manufacturer of firearms. The official company name is FN Herstal. FN is a subsidiary of the Herstal Group. Herstal also owns the U.S. Repeating Arms Company (Winchester) and Browning Arms Company (an American gun company founded by John Moses Browning's family). Together these divisions form the Herstal Group.[1]
