advice on buying an AR
I know nothing about AR's other than I want one. . I'm starting to think about getting one and will do research but came close to an impulse buy. Is this a decent ar for the price or should I wait? Does anyone know of any current deals on ar's for a decent price. Any advice on what I should look for?
I don't need anything fancy, but I don't want something that I am going to hate and never use either.
Thanks for any feedback.

Seems like a decent deal. I would buy the new ruger ar-556 for $599 or build one from palmetto state armory

In before txdmerc starts nut hugging Windham.
I always recommend that people get a 6920. It is the standard, and you'll never regret it. That said, there are many good options nowadays. Take a look at Soike's Tactical and PSA, and even S&W.
The Colt, though, will always hold its value better, especially considering what they are selling for right now.

Re: advice on buying an AR
i t,
I was just like you a couple yrs ago. Knew nothing about ARs and thought I'd never have one. Considering I've got just about everything else I'll ever want, I decided to see what this AR madness was all about.
Not wanting to drop too much coin I went for the cheapest one available. S&W15 Sport model. Glad I did!! It will shoot just as good as anything out there. Shooters passing by the bench comment that it is a good looking rifle. It is a very basic workhorse.
A couple weeks back I saw them on the net for $599 shipped. I don't recall where that was.
If you are all into that "looks thing in an AR", this is probably not for you. If you want an inexpensive rifle that shoots good, then it may be just what you need.
I seriously suggest you look at and consider this rifle.

Spend a little more and get this, in this price range you won't find much better. Although it's currently out of stock, keep looking there are a couple vendors that sell this gun for the same price.

Next step is a Colt 6920.

For that price range I like the S&W Sport. Also can't go wrong with a PSA build or complete rifle. As mentioned above the Ruger DI AR15 should be available soon too.
