    INTRO

Let me guess, you have seen a few models in your local store, you have seen some ads in the gun rags, and a "guy" you know thinks his rifle is "the best." And now you need some help separating the wheat from the chaff, and have come here to find out what is best for you. Am I close?

I am going to assume you plan to take this into harm's way, or at least want a rifle CAPABLE of being taken onto a "two-way" range. If you just want a recreational shooter, just pick up whatever fits your budget at your local gunshop. If it doesn't work as advertised, no one gets hurt. But for those whose lives depend on meeting evil in this present age with force, and lots of it, keep reading...

If you want a serious defensive rifle look to spend right around or just under $1000 if you find a good deal on a Colt LE6920. There are lots of options once you get beyond $1k

For a range gun I highly suggest the S&W M&P 15 Sport and that can be had for sub $600.

A build you own PSA can be had between $600 and $800 depending on what you want and what kind of deals you wait for.

Good luck, cant wait to hear about the first range report on whatever you get.

    S&W M&P Sport 15 $530

    Colt LE6920 $900

I always recommend that people get a 6920. It is the standard, and you'll never regret it. That said, there are many good options nowadays. Take a look at Soike's Tactical and PSA, and even S&W.

The Colt, though, will always hold its value better, especially considering what they are selling for right now.

    ETA: FUCK.
dont you got anything better to do then bash me everytime i bring up Windham? they been making barrels for 30+ years experience , if i wanted a fucking Colt i could have bought one.

If you dont know the success story of Windham Weaponry you dont know what your talking about .

you can shove your colt up your ass with pride , ill choose WW over Colt any given day.

    Thanks for any feedback.

Go to the range and shoot someone's 16" carbine, and another's 16" midlength. You will probably choose a midlength. Down the road, adding a Vltor A5 RE and a Battlecomp, you will have one smooth, flat shooting rifle.

Don't drink the 16" carbine rifle koolaid.

Since you don't mention a budget cap and its not my money:

    Wilson Combat Paul Howe carbine.

Everything you need, nothing you don't.

Yes its a ton of money but it is damn near perfect imo.

I would get a COLT if you don't intend to mess with it much, there's probably no better stock option. I would be careful about buying anything sub $700. Obviously you get what you pay for, personally, I'm not willing to accept sloppy construction and loose tolerances.

My advice - build a lower or have a friend help you.

Buy a BCM upper that comes with a free BCG now: http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-S...%20ib%20bk.htm

You will not have to upgrade or second guess your purchase.
