    Default Loading .45 colt

    Hello all,
I have lots of lead .200 grain LSW and round nose bullets sized .452 for ACP however i was wondering if anyone had loaded this type of bullet in a Colt 45?
My normal colt load is a .452, 250 grain slug but due to the number of bullets i have I would like to use them up.
    Any ideas?

I've used 200 grain SWC for long colt & they shot just fine from my cowboy revolver, but my 1873 lever didn't like to feed them. The round nose flat point 200 grain work great though. I haven't used any LRN for acp or colt, but I'd imagine they will work in a revolver with no problems.

So did you seat the semi wad cutters deeper into the case and roll crimp the top of the bullet to hold it into place?

Yes. I can't remember my exact length without digging up the load cards, but I had a little case rolled over the bullet shoulder. These were Missouri Bullet swc that I had been using in 45acp. When I got my first cowboy pistol, it's all I had & wanted to use them up.

i was using mine in open top richards/mason conversions.

I used a slight roll crimp , but for the blackhawk loads those were much hotter and required a heavy crimp.

PS, most books now IE: lyman have a specific section for Normal VS blackhawk/TC loads for calibers like this. Just like Orignal VS marlin loads.

Yes. At one time I loaded a bunch of .45 Colt using 200 gr. LRNFP bullets the handgun was a U.S. Firearms Rodeo and the Carbine was a Marlin 1894 C Limited.

The powders used were Titegroup and Win. 231. The Hodgdon Reloading Data website should be able to give you data for both powders and Speer # 13 and 14 shows loads for added powders.

Thanks for all the answers...I load them for a Ruger and a Uberti so I load them so they are lighter and safe for the Uberti.

    Thanks for all the ideas.

I have been loading 165 grain full wad cutters for my Vaquero. Seated flush to the case mouth and Over five grains of Unique, they are dead on accurate at 25 yards.

Do you cast those yourself or buy the 165 grain bullets? I don't see those too often?
