M&P 9 takedown wire

ok, I installed the apex kit which wasn't to bad. Putting trigger pin back was a pain but I eventually got it. I put it all back together and all seemed well until I removed the slide. I noticed the takedown lever now comes out very easy...apparently I lost the takedown retention wire. My question is this... Is it safe to use the pistol without the retention wire. The lever only seems loose when the slide is off. I have ordered a new one but it will be a few days until it gets here.

I would test it VERY slowly ... dont want it to pivot at the wrong time and the slide to go flyin!
