Default Pittsburgh N.Hills area - club to join ??

    Hi all,

I live in Allison Park (North Hills). I'm looking to join a shooting club, mostly interested in a place to practice pistol & maybe some trap & skeet.

I'd like to try IDPA, but have never done it.

    1. Suggestions on clubs to join & how to contact them?
    2. Thoughts on where & how to get started in IDPA around here?

    Thanks!

There is one in Warrendale, I think it is called North Side Sportsmans Club. It is right off of 19 after Wexford. Descent club, has some nice long rifle ranges and I think they built an indoor archery. A little bit longer drive would be the Pitcairn club where alot of us shoot. I've belonged to several over the years around Pittsburgh, and I can tell you the Pitcairn one is awersome. Here is their website: www.pmsconline.com. Depending on where you are in Allison Park, you could come straight down Rt. 8, and cut up through Regent Square and hit the parkway. I would probably only be about a 1/2 hour ride. I'd be happy to take you to that range some day if you want to check it out.

Note: some clubs have goofy rules like, no more than 3 rounds in your gun, no rapid fire, and stuff like that. So be sure to find that out before you join.

    St. Marys,
Thanks for the quick response. Actually, I was looking at the PMSC website yesterday and was impressed. I would be very grateful if I could take you up on your offer to check out PMSC at a time that's convenient for you.

    My email is tree707@gmail.com Thanks!

    PMSC is a great club.

when the Greater Pittsburgh Gun Club closed down, it took me about a year to find another good club.

there are a lot of great clubs around (including some that are much closer to you) for sighting in deer rifles, but most of them seem to have rules that make it impossible to practice practical shooting.

i finally found PMSC and was thrilled.

personally, i think you will find it worth the drive (which won't be all that bad anyway).

also, PMSC is where the PAFOA groups shoots are held on the second sunday of each month. you should try to make it out to the one in july. you could check out PMSC as well as meet a bunch of PAFOA members. they are a good time.

North side sportsmans does not do IDPA and are not set up for it. I am unaware of millvale sportsmans currently, but I would doubt that they do IDPA. Allegheny country rifle club does not let you use holsters or anything like that, but I BELIEVE they have IDPA/IPSC type shoots once a week, but they are also not really set up for it so your not gonna have much fun.

To sum it all up, join PMSC.
