    Default Smith and Wesson 3953

Saw one at my lgs today, good price, mint, he's holding it for me to pick up Saturday. Anyone own one ? I'm assuming they are just like all the other alloy smiths - I own a few and really like them ( 6906, 4566tsw, 4046, 4053 ) - just curious if there is anything different with the 3953. I am not a huge fan of the da only, I really like the de-cocker feature, but for the money, I can't pass Looking at a 5906 tsw too - might just have to avoid decisions and get both!

Great little guns. I prefer the 3913 for the da/sa. If it was cheap enough I would jump on it.

I found both triggers to be terrible to me so the triggers are on a scale to me.. The Glock was a crisper suck and the XD was a more mushy suck. They are in the same family, SR9 (heavy suck), Glock (crisp heavy suck), XD( lighter mushy suck), M&P(heavy mushy suck).

Excellent little carry gun. I have the 3913. 3914 and the 3953. The first two are a little more accurate as the 3953 was an ex-police gun that saw a lot of use, the other two I purchased new many years ago. This series are often commented on as the best 9 mm single stack carry piece (and not by gun-rags who only want to sell the latest tupperware!). Dave_n

I absolutely love the older S&W autos and think they are horribly under-rated. I carried a 6906 for years as a duty weapon; the single stack version was the 3913. I was our regional firearms instructor / armorer and tortured tested them, trust me. We had 100's in use with almost zero problems. When we eventually transitioned to Glocks, I bought my Smith and now wish I'd bought several more. I have quite a few handguns but if the shit really hits the fan, I'm grabbing the 6906. Indestructable and always goes bang.

Love my 6906 too. Wish this 3953 I'm looking at getting was the 3913 instead - but the gun is mint, two mags, and the price is right. I didn't think I'd hear any negative, but thought I'd throw it out there. I agree, these older Smiths are outstanding pistols Have been looking at a model 457 too - police trade, just waiting for the price to drop a little more on it. Whenever I see one of these older Smiths, I try to grab it

You may be surprised how well you can shoot the DAO's with a little practice. In feel it compares favorably to a good DA revolver trigger but it's lighter, smoother and shorter. I have a 3953 and a 3913 and shoot them equally well.

    Let's see some pics!
