It is worth it. Also, keep an eye out, as they discount it regularly. You can get up to 30% off if you time it right, or are willing to get a refurbished machine. I went with refurbished and wound up paying only about $640 shipped. Peak sale times seem to be Fall/Christmas/Father's Day.

Since I was the OP on this thread I thought i'd give my 2 cents worth, I bought a foodsaver sealer awhile back, and I have been using foodsaver bags, i've been happy with it since I bought it, I've had only one bag that didn't seal well and the meat got freezer burn, other than that, no problem.

Seriously, stop spending so much on the foodsaver brand bags. The link I posted up thread to the bags on Amazon work just as well and you get far more for less money.

Well, I got my sealer today, as well as the bags. Here is what I got:

Weston 65-0201 Pro-2300 Vacuum Sealer, Silver
Weston Vacuum Sealer Bags (2 8"x50' rolls and 2 11"x50' rolls)

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I just did a little experimenting, to check it out. I sealed up the following:

    Bag #1: 2 peaches
    Bag #2: 3 bell peppers
Bag #3: big chunk of meat
    Bag #4: 3 bananas
    Bag #5: 39Flathead

Bags 1-4 sealed up just fine. No issues, no problems with liquids or anything. The vacuum was enough to "collapse" the peppers a little bit. Bag 5, there was sort of a whining noise and a lot of commotion, but once the bag sealed up, that noise went away.

I plan to make a box of some kind to contain the rolls, and provide a built in cutter - whenever I get around to it. But in the meantime, based on this very small amount of experimentation, it seems to be a good unit and I look forward to further use this weekend (I have a lot of meat to seal up).

One day I will have a chamber sealer...but at more than twice the price of what I got already, it will be a while.

Quick math on my bags indicates that depending on how long I make bags, my cost per bag is somewhere between 15 and 20 cents.

I have a plan in mind to make a wall mounted dispenser with a cutter. I just haven't built it yet. When I do, I'll post pics. Plan is for it to hold both size of bags at the same time using the same type of cutter that's in my sealer.

I WOULD do that, but we don't really have the wall space for it. Our kitchen is VERY small. Otherwise, that's how it would do it.

I had to make wall space in planing for it. Moved the family calendar from one spot to another, so the dispenser would be near the sealer.
