It is worth it. Also, keep an eye out, as they discount it regularly. You can get up to 30% off if you time it right, or are willing to get a refurbished machine. I went with refurbished and wound up paying only about $640 shipped. Peak sale times seem to be Fall/Christmas/Father's Day.

Re: Freezer paper vs Vacuum Sealer
Since I was the OP on this thread I thought i'd give my 2 cents worth, I bought a foodsaver sealer awhile back, and I have been using foodsaver bags, i've been happy with it since I bought it, I've had only one bag that didn't seal well and the meat got freezer burn, other than that, no problem.

Re: Freezer paper vs Vacuum Sealer
Well, I got my sealer today, as well as the bags. Here is what I got:
Weston 65-0201 Pro-2300 Vacuum Sealer, Silver
Weston Vacuum Sealer Bags (2 8"x50' rolls and 2 11"x50' rolls)
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I just did a little experimenting, to check it out. I sealed up the following:
Bag #1: 2 peaches
Bag #2: 3 bell peppers
Bag #3: big chunk of meat
Bag #4: 3 bananas
Bag #5: 39Flathead
Bags 1-4 sealed up just fine. No issues, no problems with liquids or anything. The vacuum was enough to "collapse" the peppers a little bit. Bag 5, there was sort of a whining noise and a lot of commotion, but once the bag sealed up, that noise went away.
I plan to make a box of some kind to contain the rolls, and provide a built in cutter - whenever I get around to it. But in the meantime, based on this very small amount of experimentation, it seems to be a good unit and I look forward to further use this weekend (I have a lot of meat to seal up).
One day I will have a chamber sealer...but at more than twice the price of what I got already, it will be a while.
Quick math on my bags indicates that depending on how long I make bags, my cost per bag is somewhere between 15 and 20 cents.
