Re: Freezer paper vs Vacuum Sealer
Friday was a good day. Buddy and I bagged two deer- both our firsts. Stuffed the cavities with bags of ice to keep them cool. Stopped at Sams and picked up the Foodsaver I have been eyeing for a year. By the time I got home and quartered them the meat was all cool to the touch.
Today I finished grinding the rest of what I wanted to grind. Split over three days the effort to skin, quarter, and process 2 deer was not too bad. Everything is vacuum sealed and frozen, except the straps and loins which will be eaten this week.
If any of you have never eaten the heart, try it. A bit rubbery, but excellent flavor. Livers and silver skin scraps will be cooked for the dogs.

Vacuum sealer all the way. They are absolutely awesome in every way!!
Just an FYI if you call foodsaver company, the customer service reps must get a commission. You can haggle with them and really get quite a steal on bags. I usually ask for a price on several boxes of the rolls and then say "no im not interested for that price"... then they start offering deals, the longer you hold out the better the deal getsWhen unholstering your sidearm it is customary to say: "Excuse me while i whip this out"

Re: Freezer paper vs Vacuum Sealer
I usually buy the multi pack. I believe it has 3- 11" rolls and 2- 8" rolls.
They go for (I believe) $35 at Wal-Mart etc..
When I call foodsaver I can usually buy two boxes and they will throw in something like 2 extra 11" rolls and one 8" roll plus I usually work them for a new set of gaskets.
Finally you can get them to discount shipping or maybe throw in one more roll to offset the costs.
It has been a while since I ordered so I could be a little bit off but I have always been impressed with the deals they will makeWhen unholstering your sidearm it is customary to say: "Excuse me while i whip this out"

Re: Freezer paper vs Vacuum Sealer
Has anyone had any issues of using non-foodsaver brand bags in their Foodsaver brand sealer? I haven't bought any off brand bags yet, just wanted to see if anyone had any experience.

Re: Freezer paper vs Vacuum Sealer
I've used the Foodsaver (FS) with the bags I bought several times now and I have to say I like the bags better than the FS brand bags. The machine seems to better vacuum out the air from these bags. They are a different texture whereas the FS has a smooth side and a rough side these bags are smooth on both sides and feel a little thicker, they are a half inch wider.

Re: Freezer paper vs Vacuum Sealer
Just placed another order for these bags. As I was ordering I found out why they seem to vacuum better than the Food Saver brand:
"THE QUICK DRAW" Bag is the secret weapon to FOODSAVERŪ and RETAIL STORE-style vacuum sealers. These clamp style sealers use a special texturized bag to pull the air out with a professional grade seal. Instead of the typical textured surface found in the high priced store bags, our bags have a strip of polyethylene textured mesh sealed onto to one side of the pouch which is designed to be a channel that draws the air out of the clamped end much faster. They are a 3-1/2 mil nylon-polyethylene standard barrier vacuum pouch that will work well for sealing fresh and frozen food, as well for medical and electronic applications.

Almost time for me to reorder. Weston has a similar bag, but not sure about the price though.
