    Unhappy Mosin Nagant OOPS!

I brought my new Mosin Nagant home today. I pushed the bayonet on and it seems to be stuck. REALLY stuck. There's a spring-thing but it doesn't seem to loosen the grip of the bayonet on the barrel. Any suggestions as to how I can remove the bayonet? Thanks, DMcC

if it's a side bayonet, you grab the knurled part and pull it towards the front of the rifle.

Same thing happened to me. You need to push in on the locking tab and then twist. Problem is with either cosmoline or rust that piece sticks. I used pliers but be careful. You could try heating it a little.

This site gives how to adjust the Russian spike.

    I hope this helps.

Orange hammer helps and a lot of lube.

I have never seen one of them stick.

    cosmoline strikes again.

It's a pretty common thing believe it or not as they tend to be pretty tight. Penetrating oil, heat from a hair dryer (or lots of shooting) and a rubber mallet or block or wood should do the trick.

Just leave it on, the rifle will probably shoot better with it attached anyway.

It will shoot better, it was designed to be fire with the bayonet on, something about the harmonics or balancing.
