Questions on 1911’s - lots of options
I am interested in buying a 1911 .45 for primarily target shooting.
In looking at the market, there are lots of guns in the $1,000+ range like Colts and Kimbers. Then there are some midrange models like Ruger and Springfield that start at $600 and up. Lastly, there a dozens of Philippine and Turkish models in the $400 price point like Girsan, Tisas, Rock Island etc.
Begs the question are the more expensive models withe the cost, or if I go with the $400 - $500 gun will I find that are they junk? if some of the cheap ones are decent which are the better brands of these 1911 clones?

Re: Questions on 1911’s - lots of options
You are going to get a lot of opinions on this question.
IMHO if this is target only and not competitive target shooting. I would say you could get one of the Rock Islands and be fairly happy with it.
That being said I bought a Sig 1911 Scorpion in the $1000 range and have been happy with it for target shooting and would be happy with it's reliability for self defense too.
there is a lot of information on the internet for each model with tons of haters and fan boys for each. Good Luck with your purchase. :-)

For your stated purpose, I'd say the Springfield Armory Range Officer would be a good choice. They have a target barrel, adjustable sights & good trigger. They can be had for $7-800.

Improvements can be made with changing parts, I gather, which its own flavor of rocket science to some people.

Re: Questions on 1911’s - lots of options
The Tisas and the Rock Islands especially the match Rock Islands are very nice shooters. If you have a grand to spend I would look at a Dan Wesson stainless Heritage model. That particular Dan Wesson is a really good 1911 for the money. The Range Officer and Sig models are decent 1911 as well. From 1500 to five grand there are some seriously outstanding 1911's to spend your money on. Really if you are going to shoot it hard more than 300 rounds a week I would buy a higher end pistol. If we are talking about 100 rounds a month or less I would buy a Rock Island Match or Remington or a Springfield Range Officer and spend the rest of your funds on ammo.

buy the cheap one spend the rest on ammo or a reloading outfit. the only way to have a good shooting 1911 is to shoot it a lot.
