The Brecknock/Knaures/Alleghenyville area (Route 568, 626) is fairly rural, Very quiet, nice lot sizes. Maple Grove Road is nice as well near the Race Track (noise is not too bad only during nationals) Mohnton Fish and Game is a Great club and they are in the process of putting in a defensive pistol range. Quite a few homes for sale in the area. Hope that helps.

Oley isnt bad area farm area mostly. Couple clubs around other then Oley, you have pricetown gunclub, Fleetwood fish an game, boyertown is close along with Pikeville sportsman association, perry sportsman an leesport out a Lil further. Only thing with Oley is the whole Valley is on the historic registry, can be a pain in as to deal with at times.

I don't get there much any more, but the Douglassville area may still have some nice rural properties.

I'm also in Exeter. Plenty of gun clubs in the area. Exeter has a nice mix between rural farms and tight developments. Close to 422 has plenty of stores, but the farther away from Reading the better.
The trash from the city is slowly spreading outward, and communities bordering the city are steadily going downhill.
If I were in your shoes, I'd pick a place on the side of town where your job is. Getting out to the boonies like Brecknock or southern Robeson twp is nice and peaceful..... But sucks getting to the store for a gallon of milk in the snow.

I've been doing so much reading and my head spins at times figuring this out. I did find a place on Zillow for 1,200 a month that is single family, and has a driveway. Looks to be good in Exeter. It is a small house, but says it is gas.

I do notice what you guys mean about the driving in the winter. Is the snow that bad? i have a 4x4 dually diesel as my primary driver. But was thinking of maybe picking up a 2500 4x4 as well if the snow is that bad.

Do landlords care about guns in their properties? Does that have to be explained to them?

I was going to leave my stuff in jersey till i picked up a good gun safe, and I've heard alot about Sturdy Safe, does anyone have an opinion on one?

I'll be up in Wyomissing next week for my first week of training, I hope to start scouting the the area to see what is up here.

Exeter is nice..most parts anyway. If you want a second set of eyes, feel free to pm me the location. I've been in the area since 1979 (minus 90-98 military).

Your dually 4x4 will be just fine. I have a k1500. The snow isn't that bad. For the most part, the biggest problem is idiots who freak out and don't know how to drive in it. They think their 98 Honda civic low rider will handle the hills and curves at 40mph in two inches of snow. Or someone gets stuck somewhere, and back up the traffic in the snow, so you can't get a runnie up a hill. Or the best part is when there's an inch of snow, and ppl are still trying to do 60mph on the highway with bald tires. Then the highway is closed for the accident, and all the rush hour traffic gets backed up on the side roads which aren't as well maintained as the main roads.

No reason your landlord needs to know anything about your guns. Same as he doesn't need to know about your jewelry, electronics or porn collection.

My personal opinion on gun safes..... Depends on your kid situation. My kids are older and rarely here, but I've educated them about my guns and took the curiosity away. I started with some $150 cheapie from Walmart. Worked just fine for years until the collection grew. I ended up buying a 18"x36"x72" cabinet and converted it to a gun locker with a locking hasp on front.
Out of sight, out of mind. And locks only serve to keep honest people honest. If someone really wants your guns from your safe/cabinet/locker, they'll find a way. Just like a car.... It's got a lock, and if stolen or destroyed by fire...it's got insurance.

You have a good view on safes. Very insightful. I am on the fence at the moment personally.
